These figures are estimates based on the amount and mile value you entered. They are not a quote from any bank or card network, and the SGD that posts to your statement can differ.

Assumptions used
  • The foreign amount is converted at the ECB reference rate. Card networks (Visa, Mastercard) apply their own daily rates, which can differ from the ECB reference rate.
  • FX fees are as published by each issuer as of 23 Oct 2026, applied to the converted amount.
  • The purchase is a single in-store transaction, and it is the only foreign-currency spend on the card this month. A minimum-spend threshold is tested against this amount alone.
  • Rewards are earned on the SGD charged, including the FX fee, and miles are valued at the cents-per-mile figure you set.
Not modelled
  • Rewards are subject to issuer exclusions, caps, merchant category (MCC) rules and promotional periods, which can change or end.
  • Other spend on the card in the same month, which can move a card past a minimum spend or into a cap.
  • Dynamic currency conversion, cash advances, ATM fees, merchant surcharges and annual-fee waivers.
  • Welcome offers and rewards on spend outside this one transaction.

Rupiah amounts and Bali spending

Rupiah prices run into the hundreds of thousands and the millions, so the main hazard is not the exchange rate but the number of zeros. A villa quote of Rp7,000,000 and one of Rp700,000 differ by a factor of ten, and a missing zero is easy to overlook on a phone screen. The converter above takes a full quote such as Rp7,000,000 as typed, so a price can be checked without counting zeros.

Singapore travellers spend rupiah mostly in Bali and Jakarta, and the two can look different on a statement. Bali spending often clusters around villas, resorts, tours and drivers, with a few large charges and many small cash payments. Jakarta trips lean more towards hotel and dining bills.

Large accommodation bills are where the card table is most useful. A single villa payment can clear a monthly minimum spend on its own, and it can also exceed a monthly cap; the note in each row shows which applies at your amount. Booking sites that let you choose between paying in SGD and paying in IDR are offering a conversion choice: paying in IDR leaves the conversion to the card network, while paying in SGD hands it to the site at a rate it sets.

Where a smaller merchant adds a surcharge for paying by card, the surcharge is part of the rupiah amount and is converted with it, so enter the total including the surcharge. Rupiah cash from a Singapore money changer is priced through the changer’s spread, and a credit-card ATM withdrawal in Indonesia is a cash advance with its own charges under the card’s terms. Both sit outside this table.

Paying in SGD abroad: dynamic currency conversion

Dynamic currency conversion (DCC) is when a terminal, ATM or checkout page offers to charge you in Singapore dollars instead of the local currency. If you accept, the merchant’s payment provider converts the amount at a rate it sets, with its own margin built in, and the card network’s conversion is skipped.

Paying in IDR instead leaves a single conversion with the card network, followed by your issuer’s published foreign-currency fee. With DCC, the merchant’s margin replaces the network rate, and some issuers still apply a fee to SGD transactions processed outside Singapore, so the total can carry two layers of cost instead of one.

Declining it at a terminal in Indonesia:

  • When the screen shows two amounts, one in SGD and one in IDR, select the IDR amount.
  • If the cashier selects for you, ask for the charge in IDR before you tap or enter your PIN.
  • On a printed slip, check that the currency is IDR and that no conversion rate or markup line appears.
  • Online, choose the local-currency price where a checkout offers a currency switch.

Common questions

How much is 1 SGD in IDR today?

1 SGD = 14,164 IDR at the ECB reference rate for 23 Oct 2026. Rp10,000 is about S$0.71 and Rp1,000,000 about S$70.60.

How much is Rp1,000,000 in SGD?

About S$70.60 at the reference rate for 23 Oct 2026. A card adds its FX fee to that figure, and a merchant surcharge, if any, is converted along with the bill.

Is it cheaper to be charged in SGD or IDR by card in Indonesia?

Choosing IDR means the card network converts and the issuer adds its published fee. For the cards SGfi has verified, issuer fees run from 3% to 3.5%. Choosing SGD, at a terminal or on a booking site, means the merchant or site converts at its own rate, and an issuer fee for overseas-processed SGD charges can still apply.

Which fees apply when I pay by card in Indonesia?

Visa and Mastercard each convert at their own daily rate, which can differ from the ECB reference rate. The issuer’s foreign-currency fee comes on top. For the cards SGfi has verified, issuer fees run from 3% to 3.5%. Some merchants add a card surcharge, which becomes part of the rupiah amount before conversion.
