These figures are estimates based on the amount and mile value you entered. They are not a quote from any bank or card network, and the SGD that posts to your statement can differ.

Assumptions used
  • The foreign amount is converted at the ECB reference rate. Card networks (Visa, Mastercard) apply their own daily rates, which can differ from the ECB reference rate.
  • FX fees are as published by each issuer as of 23 Oct 2026, applied to the converted amount.
  • The purchase is a single in-store transaction, and it is the only foreign-currency spend on the card this month. A minimum-spend threshold is tested against this amount alone.
  • Rewards are earned on the SGD charged, including the FX fee, and miles are valued at the cents-per-mile figure you set.
Not modelled
  • Rewards are subject to issuer exclusions, caps, merchant category (MCC) rules and promotional periods, which can change or end.
  • Other spend on the card in the same month, which can move a card past a minimum spend or into a cap.
  • Dynamic currency conversion, cash advances, ATM fees, merchant surcharges and annual-fee waivers.
  • Welcome offers and rewards on spend outside this one transaction.

Spending won in Korea

Won spending from Singapore is concentrated in Seoul and the trips out from it, with shopping and cafés taking a large share of many itineraries. Like the yen and the rupiah, the won is quoted in whole units with large numbers, so the quick conversion table above uses steps of ₩1,000, ₩10,000 and ₩100,000 to keep prices easy to read.

Shopping-heavy trips produce a distinctive pattern on a card: many mid-sized charges rather than one large hotel bill, all within a few days. If those charges land in one statement month, the monthly total is what counts towards a minimum-spend threshold or a cap, so enter the total you expect for the trip rather than a single receipt. The note in each row shows the effect.

Online orders from Korean stores billed in KRW are foreign-currency transactions too, and the card’s FX fee applies to them even when the parcel ships to Singapore. Some cards set a different foreign-currency rate for online spend than for in-store spend; the conditions in each row say where SGfi found that distinction.

When a Korean store or online checkout offers to charge in SGD, that is dynamic currency conversion: the merchant converts at its own rate, and the card network’s conversion is skipped. Paying in won leaves the conversion to the network, with the issuer’s fee as shown in the table.

Won cash bought in Singapore is priced through a money changer’s spread. A credit-card withdrawal at a Korean ATM is a cash advance under the card’s terms, carrying a separate fee and interest, and is not part of the card table.

Paying in SGD abroad: dynamic currency conversion

Dynamic currency conversion (DCC) is when a terminal, ATM or checkout page offers to charge you in Singapore dollars instead of the local currency. If you accept, the merchant’s payment provider converts the amount at a rate it sets, with its own margin built in, and the card network’s conversion is skipped.

Paying in KRW instead leaves a single conversion with the card network, followed by your issuer’s published foreign-currency fee. With DCC, the merchant’s margin replaces the network rate, and some issuers still apply a fee to SGD transactions processed outside Singapore, so the total can carry two layers of cost instead of one.

Declining it at a terminal in South Korea:

  • When the screen shows two amounts, one in SGD and one in KRW, select the KRW amount.
  • If the cashier selects for you, ask for the charge in KRW before you tap or enter your PIN.
  • On a printed slip, check that the currency is KRW and that no conversion rate or markup line appears.
  • Online, choose the local-currency price where a checkout offers a currency switch.

Common questions

How much is 1 SGD in KRW today?

1 SGD = 1,036 KRW at the ECB reference rate for 23 Oct 2026. ₩1,000 is about S$0.97, and ₩10,000 about S$9.65.

How much is ₩100,000 in SGD?

₩100,000 is about S$96.53 at the reference rate for 23 Oct 2026; ₩500,000 is about S$482.64. On a card, the issuer’s FX fee is added and rewards offset part of the total.

Is it cheaper to be charged in SGD or KRW by card in Korea?

In won, the card network converts and the issuer adds its published fee. For the cards SGfi has verified, issuer fees run from 3% to 3.5%. In SGD, the merchant’s provider converts at its own rate and margin, and an issuer fee for SGD charges processed outside Singapore can still apply. Both can be compared with the reference rate on this page.

Which fees apply when I pay by card in South Korea?

Visa and Mastercard each convert at their own daily rate, which can differ from the ECB reference rate. The issuer’s foreign-currency fee is added to the converted amount. For the cards SGfi has verified, issuer fees run from 3% to 3.5%. The same applies to online orders from Korean stores billed in KRW.

How has SGD to KRW moved over the last 90 days?
